Wow! If only Joshua Bell could play like this! The violinist plays this very challenging work amazingly well. As for the pianist, he nearly turns this into a piano concerto. I doubt that Heifetz would have hired him as he is just too good. After hearing Oistrakh play, I didn't think I'd be satisfied with anyone else, but this young violinist is unique. I still think Oistrakh's is the masterpiece, but this is not far from it. Strong, consistent playinig. The video doesn't do justice. Bravo!

ARMENIAN! Have you heard Perlman's recording? Heartbreakingly beautiful and better than Heifetz!

@crapbag725: WTF? Khachaturyan is Armenian. Georgean surnames end with -shvili, -dze etc., Armenian surnmes end with -yan! Khachaturyan, Babajanyan, Terteryan! Also, there is nothing Georgian in this music!

@warplan Kachaturian was not Russian he was Armenian!!!
Why does everyone think he was Russian when his music doesn't even sound remotely Russian (not to mention his name).

@warplan You mean Khachaturian's Georgian imagination?
Khachaturian's Russian imagination--- dark, romantic, has always had me in awe. I have 4 orchestra verions of this concerto, but this simple unit of piano & violin is as good as any of those. I wish they had identified the pianist and told when and where this video was made.

It is kind of hard to read on a small screen, but the video does credit the pianist, Arnold Draper. It also lists Silverton, B.C. Aug. 2006 as the recording place and date. Silverton is impossible to find on a map, but it hosts a wonderful music/strings camp every summer.
