Got an HD camcorder suitable to use in filming the Live Action Dragonbal fanfilm I'm making this Summer. It didn't come with an SD card and I've only now had the chance to acquire one. These two videos demonstrate my analysis of the camera's prettier 1080p resolution, and the less pretty 720p, which unlike the former offers image stabilization, a frame rate of 60fps, and captures motion better.

Since I intend the film to feature on Youtube, I don't imagine the difference will be too huge where quality is concerned. 720p vids from the camera fill up my 19'' monitor end-to-end (monitor resolution = 1280x1024), and 1080p vids have to be sized down to even fit the screen. However, the 720p res left a kind of greenish grid artifact over the footage, and it's a lot more noticeable when the footage is scaled down than when it's shown on, say, a plasma TV.

I really prefer the more stable option, yet I don't want the entire damn film riddled with grid artifacts. So, I'm uploading the test footage to Youtube to see for myself what the end-result generally looks like. I'm pretty dead-set on using the stable option 720p, but I just want to know now what the damage is before being heart broken after a full day of on-location shooting.

  • your a nob that loves to hear his own voice the sony is 3 times more of corse it would be better

  • @ivorthicken I'm sorry, are you talking to me?

I HATE the sound of my voice. Have you HEARD it? My voice is high-pitched and weird; I was narrating for the benefit of researching the camera's capabilities, and...well, it felt wrong to just keep my thoughts to myself while it was recording.

Seriously, the Hell is your deal that you come into a random camera test video and try telling people they're somehow conceited, with no good reason for doing so?

  • KOGAN is cheap rubbish along with very poor battery life, trust me I will be my house on it, if you buy anything KOGAN you will in the long run wish you did not, buy SOny or Panasonic pay a few dollars more as KOGAN gear is just over rated rubbish, I was ripped off with this junk, I don't want you to go throught the same problem.

  • @Chrisstoreycitroen I don't disagree.

I swapped the Kogan in a year ago on ebay, and used that money plus part of a tax refund for a Canon HG20, which is infinitely better, with infinitely more options.

The main issue I had with the Kogan was it's lack of white-balance options and how terribly it handled indoor lighting. Of ill-use for my 3D compositing purposes.
