 Coral Reefs are threatened by a number of sources including climate change, pollution, damage from fishing, and increasing ocean acidification.  Over half of all coral reefs are in decline.  Benefits of Reefs are many.

  • Sad but true. The autotrophic ones are the most susceptible due to there symbiosis with the zooxanthellae, which may not tolerate temperature rises as well as the animals themselves. Heterotrophic ones might have a slightly better chance.. Unfortunately the heterotrophs still require Calcium carbonate synthesis to build there skeletons. so anything inhibiting the reefs hermatypes are likely still to hurt the non-reef forming ones too.

  • Sad but true. In the future, there may be no more reefs. Too bad the clip was ended with putting a dollar amount on the reefs.
