(February 25, 2010) Ben Santer, a research scientist from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, discusses the recent problems with the use of the freedom of information act for non-US citizens to demand complete records, including emails, on scientific research projects. Santer posits that this is a dangerous dilemma that will ultimately inhibit scientific research.

This course was originally presented in Stanford's Continuing Studies program.

  • In the U.S. there is a continuing attack on objective reality by corporate forces and their right wing lackeys. At the heart of this is the fact that accurate descriptions of the world suggest courses of action that are in conflict with short-term profits.

These debates aren't really about science. They're about politics and profits.

  • @RagnarTheNerd Santer a salesman? Give me a break. He's the quintessential science nerd.

  • Why such resistance? Are you kidding?

    • Every claim by the IPCC's scientists has been tested using the scientific method by the world's experts in the respective fields and all the IPCCs claims have FAILED MISERABLY. None of the claims are even close to reality. To all reasonable people, the temperature record proves this every day. That should be the end of the scientific story. What is left? Just a political/green coalition who want to tell us all how to live-why should we do that?

  • i dont understand

  • Very nice video presentation. Two thumbs up.

  • Why such resistance? Because we have been lied to time and again. And let's be frank: BOTH sides of the debate have done this. Stop lying to the public, stop lying to other scientists, and restore faith in the scientific process.
