There is an all star panel discussing the Obama tax cut deal with the Republicans . We have point of views from all sides . Some Progressives don't want the deal at all . They only want tax cuts for the middle class . Some Progressives don't want the deal unless there are sweeteners added to the deal . I would count myself in the second group . I don't know a rational Progressive alive that thinks extending tax cuts to the richest 2% of people is a good idea . Even Obama understands this is a bad idea . However, we have to face political reality . We have to cut deals to get things passed even though we may not want to . In saying this, it doesn't mean we have to lay down and take a second shellacking in terms of deals from the Republicans ? I am definitely opposed to this current deal . I strongly feel we can get a better one in terms of unemployment and maybe passing DADT . I think both the house and senate Democrats should reject this bill as soon as possible . Then re-do the bill before unemployment extensions and the dead line for taxes ends . If need be, Progressives should hold out through January for a sweeter deal . The unemployed will be upset more with the Republicans then the Dems . Why ? The unemployed will know we are fighting for a better deal for them . Unlike the Republicans who are holding the unemployed hostage for tax breaks for the richest 2% . There are already Republicans that are nervous with this issue due to the polling on it favoring the Dem's position on tax cuts and unemployment . Where do you stand ? Anyways, Jane Hamsher, Adam Green, Roger Hodge, and Ezra Klein joins the panel to discuss the deal .

  • Compromise and selling out are two very different things Mr President.

  • @seamoremonster as harsh as this comment is I do agree with it . My problem is and isn't the compromise . It's what we got in the deal .

  • @thevirtueallliberal Sometimes we expect too much from our politicians. They are only human. But I feel our President has been given ample time and opportunity...I know the learning curve is steep...but part of that learning is to listen to the people who support him with a sympathetic and empathetic ear rather than attack them, call them sanctimonious while at the same time conceding far too much to right. I am bitterly disappointed.

  • @seamoremonster in this decision I agree I am disappointed as well . I don't think it will go through the house . In some other matters like health care I'm not disappointed . As far as this attack it was fair . He dished it to the left as well as the right . cont.

  • @seamoremonster It only stings more because we got the short end of the stick in this deal . I think some of what he had to say was unwarranted about the left and some of it grounded and sound . Though, not in this case of the tax deal . Just in general about our base being "purist " . Our new reality is we have to negotiate . But we have to do so smarter and tougher .

  • Obama should have seen this coming and started "barn storming" long ago. He didn't even try. Here's my take on it. youtube.com/watch?v=1cDfEeDeBiY

  • @TheCommonManUSA great comment dude ! You took the words right out of my mouth . I know we all should be upset with Obama for the deal to a certain extent . However, the attacks went far beyond normal . It was on the boarder of being ridiculous . I was thinking to myself, where was the same anger for the Republicans ?

  • O'Donnell is a tool, because he's right. And Keith Olbermann is an asshole.

  • O'Donnell is being a total tool.

He's yelling about democrats ever pressuring republicans into taxes. He needs to take a look at FDR raising taxes to 93% WITHOUT ANY REPUBLICANS, and Obama can't get a measly 3%.

And O'Donnell on the estate tax. It's 0% because of a 1 year exemption in the Bush plan, but what he doesn't tell you is that it was going to go up to 55%, Obama negotiated it DOWN to 35%...for no good goddamned reason. Just weakness.

  • ODonnell is a TOOL
