For several weeks now, I have been trying to master this great little piece, a ragtime two step cakewalk from 1899 by Abe Holzmann, played so brilliantly and effortlessly herein this 1973 recording by Ton van Bergeyk. However, there is something about the phrasing that my 0ld fingers just cannot cope with. So, as the saying goes, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. But then give up. No sense being an arse about it. That's not me dancing in the clip by the way. But I wish it was! :)

  • Nice tune ... great dancing. Thanks for the video !

  • @dethije my pleasure! He's a great guitarist.

  • I got Stefan Grossman's Ragtime Guitar book many years ago. It had this in it and a few others by TVB. I can just about play this one at about a quarter of the proper pace. Everything else of Ton's in there is unplayable as far as I'm concerned. This is a really nice tune. I'm going to try to play it again.

  • Hi Pwecko, I totally agree. I can play this at normal speed, but it will eventually break down as the bass comping that goes on is subtly different from what I normally play. Kills em every time!

  • hahaha hilarious dancing. I wish I could dance like that heheh. This song is quite the challenge to learn...but once I can finally play it clearly and to speed I will be a happy man, and what a genius of a guitar player to be able to put scott joplin's music into 6 measly little strings.

  • its sad hes not recognized by many people he is truley one of the greats of guitar playing but i guess with all the garbage they call music these days nobody cares.

  • Great video, thanks!

  • ;-)

  • The dancing chap is great! - who is he?

BTW, I am GLAD you posted TVB's tune

here - I hope we can all carry out a revival

    of his fabulous arrangements.
