Brand new original.
Earlier this year I came out as bisexual. Though everyone I told was completely supportive, it was still a bit weird for me. Like I say in the song - it's hard to say these things out loud. I thought creating music out of it might make it easier for me to deal with.
It was the middle of May and I was content just to be myself
Couldn't have paid me to spend a day as anybody else
Stepped out into the world, imagine my surprise
I looked upon someone special with fresh eyes
It's hard to say these things out loud
She was a girl
I was shocked, I couldn't believe
And I thought: well, this is news to me
But I got right back on track, though I didn't know where I was supposed to go
She made me blush, she made me stutter; h-h-h-h-hello
I found out girls are different - they're a lot more free
It's not as much about the chase, or about my body (not that there's very much to see)
It's hard to say these things out loud
She was a girl
I was shocked, I couldn't believe
And I thought: what does she think of me?
I thought long & hard about what I should do
Maybe those little smiles meant she liked me too
So I took a chance & told her what I couldn't hide
Let me tell you it was so exciting I could have died
She was a girl
And I learned something about myself that I had never known before
Which is that boys & boys & more boys can get to be a bore
Sometimes I want something different than what I'm used to
And sometimes she is there and she is wanting me too
This is the song I've been looking for. This is the song that made me fall head over heels for you!

When the album is released, perhaps I should write the cover text :)

Yesterday, I wrote I was going to discuss the lyrics, but 'discuss' is the wrong word. It's not proper to discuss a persons diary, and this song is sort like a page from a diary. The singer tells us how it was, what she felt, and what she did. Without poetic powerplay or mystifications, it plain and simply tells what us happened. It was in the middle of May...
It is the unique story of one single person. And exactly for that reason, it can be recognized by thousands.

(1) I recently heard another version of this song, where it was played with a band.
Surprisingly, an accordion played a prominent part during the intro and the verse.

(1b) The band had a very lively drummer, who handled the contrast between verse and chorus well, subtly using the hi-hat during the "I thought long & hard" part.
The guitars enhanced the chorus rythm by stressing the 2nd and 4th count.
An electric bass guitar inconspicuously supported the verse, but in the chorus began to walk the scales and everybody that listened just had to move with the rythm.

(2) Just when people started to wonder whether the backing vocalists were only there for illustration, they kicked in in the second chorus. Their sweet harmonizing added a romantic tone to the "I thought long & hard" part. Just before "Let me tell you" the solo guitar entered.
At the end, the chorus was repeated a few extra times. I believe the band also has some brass instruments or saxophones.

(3) The version that I just described, unfortunately exists only in my imagination. I hope it will be a single some day. In my imagination, the CD cover also features a still from the video at 4:05, but you would probably choose a more recent image.
Some other day, I will discuss the lyrics of this song.
