LOST HORIZON (1973) Part 1

This 1973 retelling of the classic tale of James Hilton's Utopian lost world plays out as a musical production complete with Bacharach pop music.While escaping war-torn China, a group of Europeans crash in the Himalayas, where they are rescued and taken to the mysterious Valley of the Blue Moon, Shangri-La. Hidden from the rest of the world, Shangri-La is a haven of peace and tranquility for world-weary diplomat Richard Conway(Peter Finch). Here there is no crime, no war, no sickness, no pollution, no sadness and a lifetime may be in the 100s of years. His ambitious brother, George(Michael York), sees it as a prison from which he must escape, even if it means risking his life and bringing destruction to the ancient culture of Shangri-La.

So good that you posted this version of Lost Horizon. When I was 10, I closed the theatre in a small northern Iowa town after seeing the 1937 version over and over that day. I walked home in the snow that night, not on the sidewalk, but on the snow piled high on the sides. I was making my return to Shangri La. I'm still looking for it, and now suspect each of us will find it deep inside ourselves. So many messages in that movie. Thanks again.

I hope the person who said Sony is releasing a DVD of this movie is correct. I can hardly wait. What took them so long. And WHY do I still have to wait until Christmas??

The film's director, Charles Jarrott, has just passed. Do you think they played 'World is a Circle' at his funeral just to be cruel?

They added singing.

Why the hell did they do that? Yuck!!! Singing!!! From the 70's!!!!!

They need to redo this WITHOUT SINGING!!!!!

@georgeburns80 i totally grooved on this flick when i saw it in the 1970's. later i saw the 1930's version with ronald coleman. it's available for viewing also at google movies. which version is "best"? does it matter? you say it all "I was making my return to Shangri La.I'm still looking for it, and now suspect each of us will find it deep inside ourselves"
