As the pioneers traveled west across this land, they stared in wonder at the towering geologic formations along this 144-mile route. Today, you can experience these spires of the prairie, such as Chimney Rock, just as they did more than a century ago.

Spend some time kicked back with a stiff sarsaparilla enjoying the genuine Western hospitality of local cow towns, and have a gunslingin’ good time at an Old West main street replica. If you’re ready to try your hand at being a real cowpoke, area cattle ranches give you a chance to learn the ropes.

Then get ready to hit the outdoors running. Lake McConaughy promises plenty of water fun including skiing, sailing, and windsurfing while Lake Ogallala offers milder pastimes such as fishing and bald eagle watching. And with all of the hiking and biking trails, you can explore nature to your heart’s content.
