About a year before Gary Doer was elected Premier of Manitoba, Videon's Insight phone-in program had him on as a guest and took calls from various citizens.

I called in ("Jim from River Heights") asking Doer's views on the Southwest Transit Corridor and downtown revitalization.

However, Doer seemed more interested in building outdoorzy type stuff like bike trails, and cross country ski trails.

I don't have a specific date this program aired but it's somewhere between April and September 1998.

This is an interesting interview, in that Mr. Doer was outlining his plan for becoming Premier, while listing the work done as an MLA Opposition Leader. Winnipeg may never get a mass transit system, but it is generally accessible for bicycles and walking.

Winnipeg will indeed get a mass transit system. It's just a matter of getting more citizens demanding it more. The politicians don't seem to care or are not informed enough or have some ties to Big Oil.
