Australia ushers in 2008, New Year Sidney

Australians are among the first in the world to celebrate the start of the New Year.

Revellers gathered on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour to welcome 2008.

Up to 1.5 million people watched Australia's biggest fireworks spectacular from the waterside at the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The theme for this year's show was "The Time of Our Lives".
