BILL MOYERS:
Here we go again. No sooner does Barack Obama challenge John McCain on extending George Bush's expensive tax cuts for people at the top than cries go up of "Class War! Class War!" Look at this essay posted on the website of capitalism's op-ed page in the WALL STREET JOURNAL. It accuses Obama of a "class-warfare tirade" for a speech he made critical of "tax breaks for big corporations and wealthy CEOs."

Now, Obama's economic policies should get a full critique. As should McCain's. But, please, can we put aside that old canard spouted by Wall Street apologists every time someone calls for greater equity between working people and the rich? Truth is, there's been a class war waged in America for thirty years now from the top down, and the rich have won.

  • The wealth in America is more concentrated than ever before in our lifetimes. The Minimum Wage doesn't get raised for over TEN YEARS... There are Millions of homeless people, constantly on the move in all our urban areas... One in five children are born into miserable poverty... There are over 50 Million Americans with no Health Care, not even basic... Yeah, I'd say the social contract in Amerika is totally shredded! It's everybody for themselves, it's ugly, and it's going to get worse!

  • @qwertypoiu4321 Exploitation - particularly in the factory system - begins with seizure of land: this has been true in England, India, Bangladesh, China, Vietnam, Latin America & elsewhere. Subsistence farmers refuse to send their 8 year old children to work 110 hrs a week for barely enough to eat so that some ass in a western city can buy a cheap pair of sweatpants while an even greater ass makes billions. That is why they first must COERCE them off the land and COERCE them into wage servitude.

  • @musicalidea Anyone that violates the Non-Coercion Principle should be charged as such.

  • @qwertypoiu4321 Down with unthinking bootlicking Tories like you.

  • Class warfare against division of labor diversity is just a criminal tactic to attempt to legitimize criminal mob coercion.

  • The white shoe boy Money Junkies of Wall Street have screwed over the middle class by first outsourcing all of our jobs to cheap labors countries all around the world and 2) they have screwed us over by schemes and dreams unheard using exotic investment vehicles like Credit Default Swaps, CDOs, and Mortgage backed securities.

  • Why oh why, does ANYONE waste breath on the puppet in the White House?

    Ignore Barky.

Bankers are the enemy. Arrest the bankers!

Tax the bankers! Make the bankers pay!

  • Class warfare is just an empty misdirection to demagogue the poor and promote coercion.

  • IT IS CLASS WARFARE ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS IS

  • China will whip our butts in a little while. While we were fighting about them being Communists, they have somehow successfully decided to IMPORT less, while EXPORTING much. They now have most of our industries and maybe even some of our "secrets."
