When DS first premiered on ABC in 1966 there was nothing supernatural about it. Fisherman Burke Devlin (Maggie's boyfriend) hated Roger Collins because he believed Roger had swindled his father in a business deal over the Collinsport cannery, causing his dad to commit suicide. Somebody tampered with the brakes of Rogers' car and he was almost killed. The chief suspects were Burke and David Collins. So it was a 'whodunnit' very similar to 'The Edge of Night' on CBS.

i haven't seen the entire story, but my understanding was Burke Devlin went to prison for a crime Roger Collins committed - a hit and run accident..i don't recall anything about Burke's father - or Burke being Maggie Evans' boyfriend.........

my first reaction to a 'new' DS movie was apprehension; and now that i've seen at least the trailer, it's clear this is going to be a comedic send-up..doubtless, this'll be on demand when it leaves the theatres, and i'm not likely to rent it...

TO ANSWER THE QUESTION OF NOT BEING TO FOND OF THE NEW MOVIE AND TIM BURTONS WORK. I FELT THE SAME WAY UNTIL I REALIZED THAT IT'S COMDEY AND WITH. ALL DUE RESPECT IF THOSE HARD WORKING ACTORS AND ACTTRESS WENT ALL OUT TO MAKE THIS A SPACTACTILER MOVIE AND JONATHAN HAD TO HAVE REALLY APEOVED HE WAS IN IT I DO NOT THINK THAT HE WOULD HAVE MADE A CAMEO APPERANCE IN IT IF HE DID NOT APPROVE . HE WAS AERY SERIOUS ABOUT HIS WORK.

Thank you too my son Alfred for sending me this wonderful E Mail with my favorite all time soap. i grew up with this app i was 12-13 years old when i say down with my mother who i miss so much. i watched and next day i could not wait to get home from school. as i have read that a lot of kids did that Jonathan FRID was my first love if only in my dreams. I don't like remakes and updates. The Brady Bunch Movie was a phoney travesty, The Beverly Hillbillies Movie was stupid, but I suppose that remakes can be good.

For example, I am looking forward to the next offering in the Dumb and Dumber series.

I remember watching this as a kid in the 60's...It was in black and white, even if we had a color tv (which we didn't) Black Shadows was always in black and white....Spooky

Burke Devlin was not Maggie's boyfriend, Joe Haskell was (he use to be Carolyn's). The very first supernatural thing on the show was when Josette made an appearance, until Laura showed up.

I have been watching some of the old episodes on Netflix. They start out with episode 210. Burke Devlin is on Carolyns shit list for some reason unbeknownst to me. I watched Dark Shadows for a year in 1969. I used to get let off of the school bus 5 minutes after the show started at 4 pm. I would run up the driveway and into the house so I could catch the remaining 25 minutes. I loved that show and it is fun to watch it now after all these years.
