With support from USAID, CHF has launched an innovative new program in Haiti that is turning buildings destroyed by the January 2010 earthquake into valuable sand and gravel that is being used in the recovery effort. CRUSH (Creating Rubble Recycling Solutions for Haiti), was launched in October 2010 and is operating in some of the most earthquake-affected areas of Petit-Goave and Port-au-Prince. The CRUSH program uses portable crushers supported by almost 500 cash-for-work laborers who are employed to process the rubble and create usable building material.
