@bluegrassreb1 you should read "Confederates In The Attic" by Tony Horrwitz - a very interesting book, not least as it shows how united the actual veterans of both sides were after the war and shook hands honorably etc. Nowadays, however, there seems to be a burgeoning resentment from some voices in the south that the Confederates lost - the same voices who are often racists, gun ownership nuts, Obama haters etc etc. The war is being hijacked for modern agendas.

@ryko26 to a Southerner he soundslike a yankee that knows his history!!
unlike most today who think the whole war was over slavery. and every rebel should be called a traitor. this guy would argue with u a long time and put u in ur place even though he is a Northener.

been there , a very sacred place.
as a Rebel, makes me sad to hear this guides story. LONG LIVES DIXIE!!
a forced union is an oxymoron...

This is very nice! I'd kill to visit Gettysburg. Nah, that'd probably just defeat the purpose. :P

How could such an esteemed and brilliant tactician as General Lee have ordered the charge over 1 mile of open ground against well entrenched Union forces who had the high ground? The poor brave reb's never had a chance. Even an idiot, a moron, an imbecile like me could see that charge was doomed to fail.

General Lee is overrated. He benefited from having the best tactical general of the civil war, Jackson, and the best strategic general of the civil war, Longstreet. Lee was far too aggressive. After 2 years of fighting, he still didn't understand the huge advantage defenders had. After Gettysburg, Longstreet got himself transferred to the Western theater where he was instrumental to victory at the battle of Chickamauga, by far the greatest Confederate victory in the West.
The bravery those men on both sides exhibited is just unfathomable.
