This is NOT a version, this is the ORIGINAL, performed by Gershon Kingsley who also composed this masterpiece, in 1969. The band Hot Butter was later established by Kingsley's former band mate in First Moog Quartet, Stan Free. Hot Butter made Popcorn famous in 1972. In recent years Gershon Kingsley has finally obtained the acknowlegdment he deserves for Popcorn.

Why must electronic music be the province of partying and anti-intellectualism? Electronic music was founded by artists, not party DJs.

For actual founding works of electronic music, try looking up on YouTube the electronic works of Karlheinz Stockhausen, the composer who came up with the term "electronic music" to describe music produced by electronic synthesis. Also look up the musique concrete works of Pierre Schaeffer, whose techniques Stockhausen was seeking to distinguish his work from in coming up with that term. This music was produced in laboratories, not with keyboard-controlled synthesizers, drum machines etc.

Why are you people so eager to write Black musicians out of electronic music history? Black musicians in Detroit founded many of the basic streams of production in electronic popular music history. They deserve credit for that.

This track is significant in that it was an extremely early instance of a hit electronic popular music piece. It is not a founding piece of techno, or of electronic music generally, which had been produced by modernist art music composers for some time already.

Most pop music is 4/4 but this track isn't techno. Popcorn is undoubtedly a great piece of electronic music but it is not techno and doesn't sound like techno. Look up techno drum pattern.
