Zhang Xiao Ying 张小英 singing in bahasa Indonesia ( Indonesian language). Thanks to asianfanofdonny who has given me a helping hand in uploading this song to Youtube.

Most people know ZXY is from Singapore. But what most people don't know is ZXY could be Indonesian born.

My dad told me ZXY was from Makassar, South Sulawesi. This was the common and widespread belief among the Indonesian Chinese community in those days.

Unfortunately this saying cannot be confirmed.
Personally, I find ZXY's speech and singing in bahasa Indonesia to be exceptionally good for a non-Indonesian

  • Hahaha, it is a surprise to know that ZXY sings in Indonesian. Listening to the songs, I think that her country of origin is either Indonesia or Malaysia. Because a Singaporean usually can not speak the letter 'r' as Indonesian of Malaysian. How do you think of this. Anyway thanks for posting them.

  • You're welcome. I agree with you that it's very unlikely ZXY was Singapore-born judging from the way she spoke and sang in all of her Indonesian songs. I believe she must have been born and grew up in Indonesia. My dad told me ZXY was from Makassar, South Sulawesi.

  • The music in this song is fuller than the Chinese version. The Chinese version seems a little more bland, perhaps less instruments.

I like this better than the Chinese version.

  • Yeah, after comparing the 2 versions, I understand what you mean. The Indonesian version has extra 2 wind instruments - the trumpet and the clarinet, that the Chinese version doesn't have.

  • Very good job. ZXY sings well both in Chinese and Indonesian/Malay.

She has a very pleasant and sweet voice.

  • Thanks asianfanofdonny! Yes she sings well in both languages. I espesially love the part when she sings " berani sumpah sungguh mati ". Wow! she sounded so Indonesian.
