  • Yes, it's true. There are visible lines where the red is not completely covering the underlying white. One one hand, using two contrasting colors like this made the technique demonstration more visible ... especially for video. On the other, covering white with a dark color almost always requires two coats. Showing the second coat being applied would have been great to demonstrate complete coverage, but not so good for demonstrating technique.

  • I think the "W" or "M" method works well also. I'd say try them all and choose the one that works best for you. The principle is basically the same -- to unload the roller uniformly over a wall section, then blend the stripes or lines together with overlapping strokes for an even coating. Thanks for the comment.

  • Good tip on using the 5 gal. bucket. One small tip I would suggest is to start rolling from the middle of the wall instead of the top because your fully charged roller will shed off most of the paint when you just begin and having most of your paint at the top of the wall poses a couple issues. It's difficult to feather out the paint when you have no more room to roll up so you might get high spots at the top of your wall where you stopped your roller.

  • Good tip. Many thanks.

  • if there were any color variations between the two gallons wouldn't have made more sense to mix them together -before- cutting in? You should also have had some gray primer on those walls before the red - it'll never look good even with multiple coats.

  • wow i would have never thought to use a bucket. nice technique!

  • best thing to do is prime your walls gray and if you want to get those walls done fast use a 18 inch roller. red over gray almost covers solid if you dont you may be putting three coats on

  • omg you hack

  • @seephor Thanks for that tip.

  • I find that when you roll off the excess paint from your open end of the roller sleave 1st, you don't get that excessive line of paint on your wall. This also helps when you are doing wall edges.

  • @Francistrafton i put the roller up to the top till i can i just see we the cornes is . never drips on me you just got to watch your build up . but you should never roll a whole wall in 1 go , paint should stretch about 1 to 1.5 sqm other wise your going to get less cover rage and holidays

  • @Thescorpian615 if your doing the W M method and applying enough paint. also not going over rolling the same spot over and over again because it will take the paint back off the wall , allso working in a methodical order , you shouldnt get misses and holidays

  • will drip off of the side of the cage.. never put full roller at the top of a wall or in a corner

i start a roller width away from corner and work it back, and backroll

  • will drip off of the side of the cage.. never put full roller at the top of a wall or in a corner

  • great video, ive been having problems with paint lines, this is sure to help - thanks from england
