2012 verson of the the sandisc ultra 2 memory card is giving me a 30MB/s read and WRITE speed which is as fast as my last years Extreme 3 CF card. So now their cheapest memory card is doing the work of their better ones from just a year ago. Its not just the size and price that is getting better but also the speed of them as well!

  • THe 30MB/s is read and Write speed COMBINED not each. Also the Extreme have a better and safer way of storing the information compared to the ULTRA. I shot a wedding on 5D and 7D using mostly Sandisk Extreme (with the RED band) and never had a problem. But we got some of the ultra's for cheap and have about 1 in 20 clips with green blocks caused by buffering errors. So if your doing something and getting paid, best to fork out for the faster more reliable cards. Just having fun? Get the ultra.

  • @TouchMeIRock just checked on the sandisk website and it says "Minimum of 30MB/second** sequential read/write speed for ultra-fast image viewing and data transfer

Backed by a limited lifetime warranty" not sure if the sequential means combined…. but agree if it is a paid shoot ill be using my more pro cards

  • unless you are using magiclantern, also just videoing a wall isn't the same as videoing a fast moving scene. These cameras use variable bitrate technologies, go wide with a lot of fast moving objects to really test this theory out.

  • @nerdybails already did, thats why i made this video. but to keep the video nice and fast and to just get the point across i have made the video this way. theory tested and proved

  • Nice 1

  • Totally forgot to add, thanks Dom for a great video series! Really enjoying following your photographic antics!

  • @kazzzdafke Not exactly because they try and sell you a gold one based on it apparently producing a better picture, even though copper conducts better than gold, and they probably only have the connectors plated in gold. The only thing the gold is good for is keeping the signal from getting dirty, which if you had things that interfere, getting a shielded wire would be better.

  • Hey Dom, which Tamron lens is that you got on your 5D?

  • For the D7000 would a higher MB/sec card clear my buffer quicker when shooting photos at 6 fps?

What would be the highest the D7000 could write to a card anyway?

    Thanks

  • It's true, I bought a sandisk class 10 and a class 6 transcend for the same price but double the memory. I always leave the transcend in and hardly ever use the sandisk, as class 6 is perfectly fine for any HD @ 60fps or whatever the EOS 550D can demand from it.
