The key point Korten dances around but doesn't get to is the two-party duopoly in the American political system. Whatever problems this country is facing, it's because the Reps and the Dems have been working together to maintain their hold on power, to maintain the corporate status quo, and to ignore the constituents that get them into office in the first place. Nothing will change if everyone bitches about this, but 99% still vote for the R or the D.

@WeNeedA3rdParty Lawyers "went to school" or "read law with senior attorney" either way you say it, basically has ZERO impact on whether what is saying is correct or not, America is/was a plutocracy and for that matter Supreme Court justices were lawyers/children of the elite. The definition of "school' is irrelevant.

plutocracy all the way baby!!!!!!!!!!

There were no law schools at the time the Constitution was written. Back then aspiring lawyers "read law" with a senior attorney. It was like an apprenticeship system. So basically what this guy is saying is incorrect.

It's simply a fascinating truth. Democracy has been completely overturn by the wealthy. It's been going on for decades now, the decay is finally just now showing, unfortunately.

Workers need to take over the workplaces and the police and military. We already occupy all three; we just have to unite.

Wow. Cogent.

Brilliant! Why hasn't this gone viral???

@cbellison @cbellison Yeah, but the ratio of consumer benefit to company benefit is hardly equal or fair. First of all, when it comes to luxury or entertainment items (electronics, etc.), manufacturers use planned obsolescence to keep us upgrading, when they could've made something better to begin with. As far as necessities (food, utilities, healthcare/ medicine, insurance, education), I'm afraid we have little choice but to "let them" make a profit, at whatever cost.
Please, add subtitles in spanish, or make a spanish version for this very important material.
We, in Latin America are giving big impulse to deep democracy, and participative and democratic revolutions...
Specially in Venezuela... ;-)

This is the kind of thought paradigm that is at the root of real democracy. A value of community is essential to taking back our power and essentially our lives. Thank you David!
