A veteran Columbia police officer was fired for using excessive force against an inmate Aug. 15.
A man in police custody began yelling after unsuccessfully trying to get water from a fountain for his eyes after being pepper-sprayed. Eventually, the officer entered and pushed the man into the wall. The officer was put on leave Aug. 24 and was later terminated.

@usmcct It's not a few bad cops, this is typical. Indeed cops are often fired for interfering with police abuse. Don't think so? Do a little research, particularly google Radley Balko or Will Griggs.

Why are the officers that saw this happen and just sit by and do nothing not get put on leave? This is the reason why cpd has a bad name. Another officer just sits there and watch it happen... Come cpd don't allow these few cops to make a bad name for yourselves
