this is not a a four thirds, it's a APS-C just like many DSLR's so your point is nothing.

Mirrorless and EVF cameras are definitely the future - if only for the advantage of making photography safer. With an EVF you have no fear of permanently blinding yourself if you accidentally look at the sun with a powerful zoom lens fitted!! That's why liveview is so useful when shooting in sunny conditions. When your retinas are burned it

Thank you!

Eh? The NX10 has a full sized APSC sensor; other than the mirror, its a DSLR! The E-PL1 uses a 4/3rd sensor which is what, 40%+ smaller. The G12 has an even smaller sensor! I would look at either something pocketable like the Canon S95 for the best pocketable quality (its essentially a shrunk down G12 but better IQ IMO) and then something like a second hand Nikon D5000 which has a screen that can rotate to protect itself (handy in your work) and available second hand for about £350.

Thanks for the advice, I may consider the Canon G12.
Sorry for calling the EPL1 and NX10 as DSLR. I guess in theory it is not, but my local stores sells them in the DSLR section. Which leads me to call them as such.

@Weohweohweohwe yes, nx10 is also provide charger... so it's rechargeable battery

@Weohweohweohwe sure. you can recharge battery with a charger provided included nx accessaires

I agree that this camera will appeal to the newcomers... people who is new to dslr... it's size is a little small and lighter compared to the normal dslr but it could produce on par quality photos which are great. yup, mirrorless is one of the good innovation.

@WhatDigitalCamera does the camera come with a rechargeable battery?

Well for those who don't know, the m4/3 sensor systems are better since:
a. they got better lenses
b. they got more lenses
c. they got compatibility between different brands zuiko/panasonic/leica/noktor/e
tc in the future probably sigma and other. The only shortage is the sensor which is smaller but considering the lens and the overall system the mft system is better than this no matter how much samsung or sony will yell about their mirrorless systems. They just want a share, that's all.
I'm looking for a pocketable and durable DSLR. More so, something that would survive a military career. Right now I'm looking at the Olympus E-PL1 and the Samsung NX10.
So far I see the benefit in the EPL1 as more pocketable and the NX10 as better image quality. Although, is the NX10 worth getting over image quality?

@loafingsmurf @loafingsmurf Neither of those cameras are actually DSLRs, and I wouldn't describe the NX10 as pocketable. If you want interchangeable lenses AND pocketability the E-PL1 (or the newer E-PL2) would be a good choice. If interchangeable lenses are not essential look at the Canon G12, which is very tough and rugged with lots of manual control.
If image quality is the priority the NX10 is a good choice, or look at the smaller Sony NEX5 with the pancake lens.

why would you buy this over a proper dslr.

@swingking338 It isn't for everyone, but it will appeal to some people mainly because of the smaller size and weight of the camera and lenses, and superior live view/HD Video functionality,
