Here's a video of an MTH Electric Trains Union Pacific Heritage Western Pacific SD70ACe.

This locomotive was made by MTH in 2007. It has Protosound2 and a fan driven smoke unit which I did not use in this video. But like all MTH trains, it smokes very well.

The train this locomotive is pulling is made up of double stack cars made by Lionel and MTH.

The second locomotive in this video is an unpowered AC6000 also made by MTH.

I decided to add my Rio Grande SD70ACe to this consist just to show that it is possible to MU these even in conventional.

With that being said, I do not have DCS yet. Maybe someday in the future. So this train is being controlled with a vintage Lionel ZW transformer.

The track is K-Line tubular with O-81 curves.

The Union Pacific Heritage series consists of six locomotives paying tribute to the people and railroads that make up today's Union Pacific. Each of the six locomotives has an unique color scheme that contains elements of the color schemes used by those railroads throughout their history. The Western Pacific made it's debut in 2005.

Well enough Joe. Everybody likes/prefers different things. Kind of like Ford vs. Chevy or the Yankees vs. Red Sox. Both Lionel and MTH make great trains. As well as Atlas O, Weaver, and all the manufactures. This really is a wonderful time to be in this hobby. I also like your videos and enjoy watching them. And that is a wonderful story about Rails. It's very nice how you rescued him.

  • @rj2571 Well, I would have to respectfully disagree....

But you still make Kick Ass videos with an awesome collection of trains! :)

I have watched those videos. As well as Union Pacific 1982 in Oregon and Up 1988 Miss Katy in Texas. The start up and idle sounds are better on the MTH version. But other then that I like the Railsounds better.

  • @rj2571 What I mean is MTH replicated (recorded) that distinct "high pitched whining-throbbing" sound the SD70 makes when it is idling. also SD70 has an unique system that uses compressed air to spin a turbine to crank the engine at start up. MTH replicated this too.

Seriously listening to these youtube sites:

    "SD70ACe Startup UP 1996"

"UP "Western Pacific Heritage" 1983 SD70ACe Start up! (06/23/2011)"

    "SD70Ace Idling Sweetwater,Tx"

Hey Joe, thanks for the comment and I'm glad to hear that you enjoy these vids. I'm happy with this locomotive, but looking back I wish I got the Lionel version instead. Just personal preference. I've never seen an SD70ACe in person, but from watching dvd's and vids on YouTube both Lionel and MTH did a nice job with the sound. I prefer Railsounds over PS2, but then again sound is subjective. What sounds nice to one person might not sound as nice to the next person.

  • I have this SAME Heritage engine only from Lionel. MTH's is WAY better! Lionel has some nice lighting effects (like the ground speed lights illuminating the front trucks) and cab lights that automatically go out- but the sound is terrible! The quality of sound is good, but the "realism" is way off (almost generic). MTH's sounds EXACTLY like the real thing!! I wished I had gotten this version like yours instead of Lionel's.

    MAN- GET DCS!! :):)

Enjoy your vids- thanks for sharin'!

    joe
