  • Is the march being played immediately from Horse Guards the winning march from this year's competition? I've not heard it before.

  • @2050qwerty The march is called Back to the Camp by Hermann Blankenburg.

The Major General's Marching Competition only runs every two years and will not run until next year

  • Fantastic Effort. Thank You at 0250 GMT Thursday 23rd February 2012

  • Very nice video. I remember being able to watch this in the stands and to be able to watch from the roadside, now people are being forced every further away. Does anyone know who decides where people cannot go in these circumstances, is it Westminster Council ? The Police ? or The Government ? Surely there is an issue of freedom here. Why can't law abiding citizens stand and watch an event from the roadside of Horse Guards instead of being penned in like animals.

  • @mazerhat Yes it is! There are several females in the Guards' bands.

  • Hermann Blankenburg certainly knew how to compose march music. His marches have the bounce to them that make marching very easy by those playing them. The British guard bands are the only ones that really do them justice. Great bands and great music. I NEVER tire of watching and listening.

  • The Coldstream Band is awesome

  • The situation from 5:48 reminds me of the scene from last year, also seen on a video by troopingadmin, where one of the DMs came from the back to alert Steven Staite that the troops were quite late. In that case the senior Drum Major had to improvise. Now the waiting seems to have been incorporated to the drill. Needless to say that everything runs just perfectly, especially the way and the point in the music where they start marching again at 7:00. Memorable. I wait for eventual corrections.

  • Nice video. I'm from New York and my father was in the Army for 25 years, we went to a lot of military events and I grew up on military music. I got tired of it for a while, and now, at age 56, realize that I really like it and miss it. I miss it enough that I got myself a reservation to go to the parade at the marine Barracks in Washington, DC this summer!

  • An excellent video indeed! Well done the Brigade of Guards & 'troopingadmin'!

One of the best I have ever seen! Superb!

  • Fantastic recording well done

  • Fine sound from the SG Pipes and Drums. Well done gentlemen, And 16 pipers. I thought with MOD reductions about 8 would be all that could be marched.
