  • you don't need the ip for the websites. You only need to use the local loopback address 172.0.0.1 or 127.1.1.1

  • Mine won't let me save when I edit the file

    Error comes up and tells me I cannot create the Hosts file;

    "Make sure the path and file name are correct"

    HELP!

  • In Win7 you may need to open notepad as admin with elevated privileges before using it to open and change the hosts file, then save the modified result as, 'save as'-'hosts' -'all files'.
