As long as this isn't drawing too much water from the Arctic Ocean (that would raise salinity levels, melting glaciers), this is a splendid plan.
The only problem is that lunatic LaRouche is associated with it now.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It's WATER. Why would solar or wind energy need to be involved? Hydro power is just as clean, and leaves just as little carbon footprint -- and I don't see what bankers have to do with it.

To top it all off, people just keep getting fatter and fatter, so how about, while simultaneously battling that, letting salt companies profit from desalination so that they can get fat people salt for their fries? I consider myself very pro-Green and this seems to me like the most Green project ever. Shouldn't one of the goals of the Green movement be to turn deserts into arable land so that people can live off of them? Deserts have absolutely no value, so why try to keep them as deserts?

You know how environmentalists are always complaining about how sea levels will rise in the future? Hasn't anyone noticed, at the same time that places like Arizona, Utah and northern Mexico are, by comparison, bone-dry? Couldn't letting some of that excess water we have in the world flow into the desert, where it's actually needed, alleviate that issue? In addition, how about taking all the desalination efforts that exist across the world right now and revving them up?

Who the hell is trying to play God? God made us in his image! Man had continously changed his relation to his environment, from a molecular stadnpoint by the use of fire. You are the one who is damned, if you believe that human cognition is a mistake, you are against your race and fellow man if you deny the noosphere.
