This is the "Swinging Bridge" over the Pearl River in Byram, MS. It was the only way across the river in Byram until the early 80s, when an 18 wheeler tried to cross it and got stuck (cars and trucks used it all the time). I can't imagine trying to drive an 18 wheeler across this thing.

I was on a date, and my date didn't want to get out on the bridge, so I shot this video while she stayed in the car.

This is also where I gave my goldfish their burial at sea, as it empties into the Gulf of Mexico.

  • German POW's built that bridge. Makes you wonder lol.

  • Really? I had no idea. I know that we got a bunch of officer engineer types here in Mississippi POW camps. From what I hear, it wasn't a bad way to spend the war.

  • ok i'm jus gonna put this out there maybe one of you have heard of some dark temple at the end of that road to the right where the gate is? may be sum rumor

  • I'm willing to bet your goldfish is still down there where it hit the water.

  • It isstill in use... It is larger and not a suspension bridge.

  • Its one similar to that one in Terry (on the Pearl River) on Rosemary Road. I don't know if it is still in use, but I remember crossing it several times when I was a child...

  • I remember driving ovder it before the 18 wheeler had done damage to it. Yeah 18 wheeler! You could stop on it and your ride would rock up and down. What a ride....

  • I can remember driving over that bridge many times, omg swinging bridge was the right name for it, lol.

  • How true, good way to wait out the war.
