Video describing my home veggie oil filtration set up.
I filter used cooking oil from a local restaurant and burn it as fuel in my 2001 diesel Volkswagen Jetta TDI. And I'm about to explain and show everything I did to accomplish this.

Not bad, but seems like it cost more work and money than needed.
You can do it with one or two 55 gallon barrels and 2 weeks settling.
Even after just one week you can siphone off the top half of the barrel and use it.
Miniscual ammounts of water will not hurt your pump. I have tryed it.
How much oil can you process for $1.80?
My only cost is a $2.50 water filter insert from Wallmart. tipically lasts me 700 miles.
You do the math for cost per mile! :O)

If I had more space to setup settling tanks to let theoil sit for 2 months, I would do that. I've seen the results, they are better than my 1micron filtering! Lovly oil.
But as it stands with my limited space, I heat my oil to dewater and accelerate settling after filtering to 1micron. 12hrs @ 1.5kW @ $0.10/kWh == $1.80 Worth it for me.
Great vids by the way!

You are wasting money and energy at dewatering the oil.
Use time and gravity (both are FREE) to sattle the oil. That will get the water and the solids out in one go.
Than use a 5 micron heated filter before the engine.
That's it.
I have ran a 40' bus on WVO for les than 1 cent a mile using this system.
