Part of the reason these busses got quieter was because the original stock (loud) exhaust pipes were removed and replaced with particulate filters which have the side effect of muffling the exhaust more.
If you want loud cool sounding busses check out the CNG Neoplans in Los Angeles!

Good video. When these buses were new they sounded a bit louder because of the cooling fan. If you ride some of the routes that go on the freeway (9X, 14X, 88), its little louder on the freeway.
