A baby elephant that rocks back and forth like that as such an early age is definitely traumatized. They don't say where they GOT the elephants from either. They are ORPHANS, what happened to their Mothers?? It is a shame that human interference causes baby elephants to lose their families! Sending them to a ZOO is not saving them. They are still in captivity. The Aussie's comment about Malaysia not being able to handle more than 1500 elephants is ludicrous. I bet he is seeing dollar signs.

There are many "sanctuaries", even official ones in Asia operating more like commercial outfits. A proper sanctuary will not make the elephants perform any tricks at all. That is correct education - to allow visitors to enjoy the animals' natural antics and behaviour, not forced tricks - regardless of justifications given.

part 2?

I want my elephant to crank out at least one painting a day... or no dinner.

fuck zoos i would rather destroy zoos and release the animals in to the wild

Fuck captive breeding.
I may be wrong but I even have trouble buying into that excuse of culling. Chances are Perth zoo bought out the Malaysian authorities into importing these elephants. .

Sometimes I wish elephants would stop being the gentle giants they are so that people won't take advantage of them.
Human beings are not worthy of the compassion and friendship of elephants. Poor babies.

@lavender880 I TOTALLY agree with you. I'm no zoologist, but I know about the rocking behaviors. They are traumatized.

The only time an animal should be trained is for the vet to check on the health of the animal. If a "sanctuary" doesn't feel right for you when you visit, it's probably not right.
WHERE are these babies now? they are not at the Perth Zoo according to the elephant database. Looks like the chains are bothering them. That bothers me. They look terrified.

The elephants have grown up since then. This story was shot some years ago.
