1000 Children, Collateral Damage?

Beaumont Unified School District has placed home to school transportation on the list of cuts as part of the solution to their projected budget cuts for the 2009/2010 school year. The result would be one thousand (1000) school children walking to school next year. In a town with few side walks, multiple freeway and railroad crossings, children will be in grave danger. Cuts need to be made farthest from children and their safety. More options need to be explored. To "GunsnGod": Here's a heads-up. When you walked back and forth to schools a mile California school funding was first in the nation. Now we fund our schools last in the nation.  So while you were growing up and receiving an education, the tax payers were "magic piggy banks." Now, we are abandoning entire generations of children to ignorance and poverty so people like you can save $100 a year on your taxes. For reference, the kids nowadays walk up to 2 miles to school. Think about it.

Boo hoo hoo let's break out the violin music! I'm sorry but I walked almost a mile to one of the grade schools I attended in Sacramento. With all you bleeding hearts bitching about child hood obesity, I'd think you'd love seeing these kids getting their much needed exercise by taking a nice long walk to school with their parents. When are you people going to get it through your minds that tax payers are not magic piggy banks that can supply you with an endless supply of free cash?
