  • Mozart's music!

    GREAT.

  • They are working in something designed by CHARLES BARRY. That's just, holy crap.

  • If Downton Abbey were a feature film it would win ten Oscars!!! A wonderful setting. See my tribute to the building.

  • Hi SunnyJim33,

    Thanks for your response.

Your description of the old rich is very similar to the Dutch nobility and old money! (I'm from Holland). It just sounded funny! '

I don't think there is anything wrong with just stating the facts (as long as you don't brag about your wealth and say how much your things cost all the time) and if there are three hundred rooms in the house, just say it without being vague about it! But that's probably just my middle-class upbringing ;-)

  • @JeanVe

The owner will know exactly how many rooms there are. She's just using English understatement... saying "quite a big house" is another example (the house is obviously HUGE). Aristocratic types don't boast (or appear boastful) or show off about wealth and prefer to downplay things. By contrast, a "new money" type of person may tend to boast, show off and play up his wealth and possessions. An upper class person would consider that vulgar. (Sorry for the long post!) :))

  • Very interesting! Thank you!

  • does anyone know the song at the beginning - just stunning and perfect for the intro. I must know it!!!

  • What a family!

  • 'This house has two or three hundred rooms...'. The owner doesn't know if there are a hundred more or less rooms in the castle!!?
