Do you really need to make char cloth? Here's an alternative for flint and steel firelighting using a yellow duster or rope.

  • What is a duster?

  • It's a soft cotton rag that wipes dust off surfaces. Duster=UK speak.

  • Did you soak that cotton rope in saltpetre?

  • No. It's just a piece of cotton rope.

  • verry good idea

  • go to flintandsteel.webs.com

  • Very cool! Thanks for sharing.

  • dude youre good you could probably just use to rock and a fart to start a blaze...........

  • But hou have just basically made char cloth with the duster or rope. I don't think it would take if it had not been previousely charred. But it is a cool idea.

With the Ferrocerium rod you could use your knife or a razor blade, piece of glass etc...

    Cheers

  • Thats awsom Pablo, Thanks

  • Cool. Did you find your chert or did you but it from somewhere? It is hard to find near me.

  • What youre looking for is Chert.

    Jasper is, essentially, red Chert.

    Flint is, essentially, black Chert.

Google Chert, and read up on it.
