The fences are Bamboo hedges abot 5 and a half feet high with wooden bases about 2.5 - 3 feet high. They are designed to look hard but be safe for the horses. The water jump would be about the hardest of them
@grincher2006 - I was thinking exactly the same thing watching this race. Nobody wants to see horses get injured (still less killed), but these obstacles clearly offer no test to the horses whatsoever (apart from the last). I'm sure NZ NH experts can say more about this. Great finish, though, backed up by some excellent commentary.
