  • It's a very expensive sound system module...just kidding.

  • Thanks for the detailed update on wheel color. I'll have to paint them black then!

  • The coaches were a set specially designed for the Coronation, they were made but only run twice. After that the loco was sent to the USA with 4 of the coaches (plus others not in the set) for a B&O commemoration, then WWII broke out in Europe which stranded the loco in the US and the coaches were used for the war effort. After the war the loco came back but the express never ran again, the cars were used on various trains until the 1960's when they were withdrawn.

  • It is a slip eccentric valve gear, so it is full forward or full reverse.

  • We are in the Seattle area

  • how do you control the speed of live steam locos?

  • There is a regulator on the engine, and you have to use skill and judgement to get it right.

  • @fodenscania2 WELL---I haven't done any proof digging---but I have a wonderful quality print of a magnificent painting by Chris Woods, showing the 'City of Lancaster--6243, in Maroon / Gold streamlining, leaving Lancaster's Castle Station for Euston. dated 1991. To all enthusiasts of this engine, try and get a copy--it's magnificent !

  • Brilliant sound!

  • @caley956 Well...it may happen yet so I have heard.

  • @svrronline It was primarily sent to the U.S. in 1939 for the New York World's Fair. It was returned to the U.K. in 1942, U-Boots be damned.

  • @svrronline if only you had an A4 streamliner

  • Is there a reason you haven't painted the counterweights black? In my collection, are those two color shots of 6220(9) at the 1939-40 New York World's Fair and those weights were indeed black. Polished driver tires and hubs in April '39, but aluminum paint by October '40. I have correctly repainted the driving wheels on both my Aster A4 (Silver Link) and A3 (Doncaster Green) 4472 with black tires and white perimeter lining. It really does improve the look of these nice models.

  • This is absolutely wonderful. I am green with envy. If we can't have "Duchess of Hamilton" back on the main line over here, this is the very next best thing!
