@Sawmillman68 Tommy knew how to make you "feel it"! It is told that the first time he sang this song, he had tears in his eyes as he knew what it was about for sure! Tommy Duncan, Whitney Texas. Close...but none like him

@matt605 Many a man has had to trust his horse to pick the right trail when conditions were bad. And not just horses but other animals have saved a man's hide when the going got tough. Look up the name "Balto" some day as an example.

I do not hear a "g" in the word "change" in the last verse. I've always know this lyric to be "as how I'd make a chain." Why must "Dan" guide him?
