I was 28 when I saw the trailer, I was intrigued. I was recently divorced and a huge fan of Tome Conti, but I forgot about it for awhile and about a year later stumbled on a movie that made me laugh through tears(what a great way to laugh) I am not GULP 45 three years older then my heroin Shirley Valintine. and at She was only 42! I still love her, only I am single and had a baby at 44, I am empowered ! and Shirley Valintine is a bloody Genius of a flick!

I did I went to Zante for a week of being me, I did what I wanted to do and it was the best time of my life. i came back a new woman and deffo not boring. Every year now im going to go for a week away on my own. I loved it. Even went Clubbin with a guy in Laganas until 8.00 a.m. who said 42 year olds cant keep up these days hahahaha

I love it when she proclaims that she hasn't fallen in love with a man but with herself. The funny thing is that when she is in Greece, she is still surrounded by morons, the very same attitudes she left behind. The difference is that she now doesn't care nor will allow any one person to keep her from living anymore. I was thrilled when she left for Greece. Her being on that sandy beach while her husband comes home to a dark house. There was no going back to the old life for both of them.

A great screenplay delivered by a great actress. She is surrounded by selfish, self-absorbed idiots who travel the pain train and become angered and appalled at her decision to rise above such poor behavior. To take your life and want to make something better and fulfilling out of it is what they cannot stand. This film is uplifting, and gives hope. It should be shown to women and men who want to break free of living with miserable spouses, who have spoiled adult kids. Shirley gives hope.
