Hated this opera for the longest time. Then some how it starts to get to you. It's probably the best opera of the twentieth century.

Somehow, Puccini always seemed to be nineteenth century opera, notwithstanding the actual dates. Agree with Janacek; two of his operas, Katya and Jenufa seem superior to Wozzeck to me.
Strauss, on the other hand, bores me to no end.

For me, it gripped me right at the start, it's so intense, it's all about acting and inventive music. It's disturbing, haunting, and it's so mad I only could love it.
