2008 will be remembered as one of the worst Dungeness crab seasons ever. One of the biggest problems was the number of very large boats and way too many crab traps. Once again, the San Francisco Crab Boat Owners Association - an organization who's members operate small, family-owned fishing vessels - are urging that the California governor and legislature take steps to limit the number of crab traps that can be dropped to protect the famous and beloved crab resource and season. This video documents the problem and calls for a solution.

All inshore fisheries, in every state should have vessel tonnage limits, net size limits, pots per vessel limits etc.
This would keep large corporations from monopolizing the fisheries and destroying the resource.

When the boat next to you expands, to match you must expand as well. Plain and simple, especially on a quota fishery, otherwise, you may miss yours! The solution is simple so why doesn't the gov. step up ? A limit on traps would help greatly, thus reducing vessel sizes. Where's a helpful law when fisherman need one. It seems only harmful laws come into effect.

American Greed plain and simple,The "I'm gonna get mine" and to hell with everyone else way of thinking. It needs to be regulated. Just wait till there are no more crab,The ocean is getting acidic and most shell fish spawn dissolve in the currents of the ocean due to pollution.Read up on it. The ocean can not sustain what we are doing to it.....
