3rd down punt is far too underused. I guess it goes down to fan appraisal but a punt on third and long near your own goal line makes more sense than running it and risking the fumble.

@bdawk20......Hello are you there or did you run away. 3 x benched buddy. Dmac is a fraud!!!!!!!!!

Sucks they cut the video short I forgot were ball stopped at. One of R.C.'s finest plays!

Don't forget about the late great George Blanda, one of the most versatile players ever. More than 26 years as a QB and kicker. Chazzi27 isn't a fan just a hater. I remember watching that game in awe of Cunningham and his abilities. Or check out Doug Flutie and his drop-kicked field goal.

@hakola95 Finally, teams use dedicated punters because it makes more sense to play an NFL minimum salary player at punter rather than taking a chance on losing a premier player to injury on special teams. There have been many, many multi-talented, multi-position players in the NFL over the years. Your comment is the ludicrous one. If you actually knew football you wouldn't have made yourself look so stupid.

@hakola95 By the way, Cunningham was a two-time All-American punter(with a career average of 45.6 yards per kick - still a UNLV record) and is also the UNLV all-time passing leader with over 8,000 yars and 59 TD's in 3 seasons.
Oh, and how 'bout Sammy Baugh? He was an All-Pro QB, punter, and defensive back at the same time for multiple seasons. He's still the #2 punter of all time behind only Ray Guy, and he is widely considered one of the greatest players in the history of football.
-
@hakola95 Oh really? Is that why Danny White finished in the top 10 in both passer rating AND average yards per punt 3 times in the same season(he was the Cowboys' sole QB and punter during these years) over the course of his career? All told, he ended his career with a 40.2 yards per punt average and threw for 155 TD's and 21,959 yards, while going 62-30 as a starter.

@danning1 55 yards in the air? Are you kidding me? He kicked it from 6 or 7 yards deep in his own end zone, and the ball landed inside the Giants' 40! It went almost 70 yards in the air! Remember, the yards in the end zone don't count, or this would have been close to a 100 yard kick. And of course rolling yards count! It would be asinine if they didn't.
-
@Chazzi27 Ludicrous comment. No position player can every be as consistent as a dedicated punter or placekicker. Versatility is a sign of mediocrity. Specialization is a sign of expertise.

December 3 1989 to be exact. MY wedding anniversary. Each table at my wedding had a small tv to watch the game. A whole room filled with Giant Fans. All 123 guests and full orchestra endless food and rolling bar.Jints lost, still married.
This video sucks. The end isn't even there.

That punt (on December 10, 1989, give or take a week), was on a bitterly cold day at the Meadowlands. That play pinned the Giants very deep in their own territory, and eventually enabled the Eagles to pull out a narrow win.
