  • This song should have been more popular than it was imho. It's hard to find any information about it online, even. Great sentiment, "prime the pump," gets one to thinking about other things that could be judiciously primed, but the best is "leave the bottle full for others," the assumption that all humans would willingly help strangers. You've been helped, now help someone else. OK then.

  • I miss the days when people were expected to do nice things. Now, it seems that whenever I do something nice, people think I'm wasting time and money--how foolish is that?

  • The song was actually written by Billy Edd Wheeler

  • if you want to know what college kids laughed about post The Merry Minuate by the Trio. thanks again for this tune

  • Have searched for this song for ages. THANK YOU

  • #GoBEARS! (private joke)

  • I like the 2:49 version more, but I'm just glad the music still lives. For a different view then, the 4 preps' "More money..." is cute too and shows the competition even in folk in those innocent times had an edge. Thanks for the grand memories.

  • I grew up listening to this song. You don't even have to be religious to appreciate the message.

  • @zachaysan Who said anything about a case-full of jars??

  • Better solution: Leave a bunch of jars to be primers and a note that says "try priming the pump and using it, but if it doesn't work you still have 11 other jars of water. Don't be a dick - if the pump works, fill up the other 12 again."

  • this song makes me think of stovepipe wells in death valley.
