This is a quick demo video I did of a Beattie Jet Lighter. Since making the video, I learned how the lighter works. Basically, it works like a jet engine. There's a small explosion that takes place behind the nozzle, which is compressed and comes out as an aerated stream. Anyway, pretty cool lighter.

  • Jack, does the beattie use the same size flint as a zippo lighter?

  • @Ducati245 Yes, it uses the exact same size flint as a basic zippo or ronson. If it won't it, check to see if there's an old flint in it that's expanded and dried. You can check this by running a small wire or something up the flint tube and see if you're making direct contact with the flint wheel. If not, you may have to manually, carefully, drill out the old flint. Does the new flint slide into the flint tube at all, or does it go in, but not spark?

  • i have one does the jet part suppose to be off to one side or straight centered with the wick cause the jet does not work

  • I centered mine just a smidge. Try tilting it a bit to the right so the flame hits the nozzle directly.

One of mine came with an original hair thin poke thing to clear the nozzle out if it's gummed up. You can try this, but I warn you, when I say this thing is the width of a human hair, I'm not kidding. You could carefully try a straight pin, but just tap it into the nozzle, don't actually push it into the nozzle. If you enlarge the nozzle by mistake, it definitely won' work anymore.

  • I'm not sure what the diameter of the poke thing is. I suppose you could try a hardware store, but you're looking for a ridiculously fine wire. It's thinner than a thread.

  • I have one from my gramps that I found a locked cabinate we just opened and can't get the jet to work some on help

  • its ridiculously simple... /facepalm

  • jack, i recently acquired a beattie jet lighter however there was no flint. i tried it with a zippo flint but i think it may be too large. any suggestions?

  • it heats the tube which causes the fluid vapor to expand forcing the vapor out the tube orifice at a velocity which is then ignited by the wick which continues heat the tube repeating the original process so on and so on
