African Cichlid Fry Stripping

African Cichlids are mouth brooders, meaning they carry their young in their mouths, until they are old and big enough to survive. If this mother were to have released her young into my tank, they all would have been eaten in a matter of minutes. I "milked" the babies out of her, and then placed the babies into a smaller "baby tank"

CKcoolz - its a toss up. sometimes she will eat them, sometimes they wont. once she spits them out for good and doesn't put them back in her mouth, use a net and separate the babies. They make tank dividers or you can also just use a smaller tank for your "baby tank'. Good luck

Ya, but the mom will starve for a bit, she wont eat for two weeks minimum even months until the fry's get out. You want mommy to starve then eat her babies when she cant take it anymore?

there is really no need to do that the mom can set them out bay her self... and she do get hirt... i just live mine in a tank all to her self then when they are ready she just lets them all out... that the way it need to be...
