Canned Heat v02

This is the second video I ever edited. I cut it on DazzleDV, an early NLE platform. The concept for the video was created by myself and Jake Dolash. We simply walked around Cedar Falls with a boom-box playing the song CANNED HEAT and dancing. We got into a lot of trouble and were banned from at least one local business.
The shot at the end of the video when we jump into the water and then reversed back out was, at the time, an achievement. DazzleDV did not support speed changes including reverse, so each frame was exported and then imported back in, in reverse order. At the time I didn't understand frame rates and field dominance, so the interlacing is jittery and field dominance is backwards. Also, the render time on the video was insane. All of the transitions between shots took hours to render and DazzleDV did not have any type of realtime playback with audio, so the song had to be broken down on paper and then roughly matched up to sync with the beat.
If you are familiar with Cedar Falls, you will notice many landmarks. Some still exist, some do not, but it is a nice little glimpse into a certain era of the town.
