  • This is one of the best songs I have EVER heard. Illinoise is one of the most interesting records of the decade. However. This version is VERY disapointing

  • Having lived in Illinois all my life, I'm quite impressed on how a non-native like Stevens seems to know a lot more about the state than I do...he's certainly done his homework!

    And go Illini!! :)

  • Why can't I like this more than once?

  • @DFDalton1962 my highschool band was the winner of many awards, so I'd say thats a good thing to sound like.

  • In an interview Sufjan said that he "likes to think of his performances as sounding like a grade six band." His courage to not have "polished" performances highlights something very unique about him. Don't watch the video, just listen to it. His voice is still very amazing.

  • the trumpet has obviously been drinking, because he's fucking up even the simplest lines.

I think Sufjan is a fine performer. You have to remember you're judging this based on a cam taken from the crowd.

Check out his performance on austin city limits, it's pretty good IMO.

  • His album, "Come On Feel the Illinoise" is very polished, professional and densely-layered. So it would be too much for his live performances to match up.

That being said, I have watched several videos of Sufjan Steven's live performances and have come to the conclusion he is a very poor performer. And he has surrounded himself with some very amateurish backup musicians.

Come on, you have to admit this is a dreadful performance. It sounds like a hastily rehearsed high school talent show.

  • bien décevante je trouve cette version live..

la chanson perd tout son coté posée tranquille..
