What do the SWMAC guys do on a really windy day and not really suitable for flying an RC plane ? Well Ron had a good idea - he built an RC land-yacht. Barry just decided to fly anyway and the Flying Trainer had a minor accident. We also had a visit from KWAKAPILOT who came all the way from Oz just to meet Barry, who has now developed a growing fan-club on YouTube.

Yeah, we're idiots.

  • With that wind blowing like that I would not stand to close to Barry. I love to fly my Funjet when it is windy out. That plane flys great in the wind. One thing you don't see much in the States is RC planes sharing a runway with full size aircraft. FAA does not even like RC fields to be even close to active runways. Plus if the Presidents plane is landing in Los Angeles all RC planes are grounded in the Los Angeles area. Keep up the fun videos.

  • @photobart1 We're really lucky here. Although it's a full-sized sealed runway, there are very few full-sized aircraft movements to or from the strip so most of the time it's used solely for RC flying. We also have an aviation radio on whenever we're flying so we can hear planes coming from several miles out. I've been flying there for 8 years and there's never been an incident. We're crazy -- but not stupid :-)

  • I think Barry made the flight look easy and some one tried to show him up and wrecked their plane. That some one probably has the clip of the crash but is to embarrassed to show it.

  • @TheKrazydreams Nah... I flew as well (quite a bit actually). The lovely "Flying Trainer" got flipped by the wind when I turned around to taxi back to the pits. Unfortunately I can't fly and film at the same time (one of the curses of Mode 1) but you can see me flying that day on the 48horijoe YouTube channel.

  • I probably should,'t say this, but for some reason, I can't help myself but to imagine Barry as a crazy axe-wielding killer after watching this. I'm sure it's nothing, though.

  • @CutthroatBill Nah, Barry's harmless (unless he's flying in a strong wind). Just a big fluffy-bunny really -- eh nuttychick?

  • An neat idea to take advantage of windy days, where you can't fly most aircraft.

  • What a fun video! Had it all: Barry, Ron, pissing, visitors, broken planes, high wind, and to top it all off, a land yacht. Ron needs to reef the sails a bit. But even if he does, it will never get off the ground and fly. I enjoyed seeing this video and am still laughing. Thank you. :)

  • Wash your hands barry!

  • you guys are hilarious! my kind of people..

  • iv decided to move to NZ!!! what fun you guys have!!!!

that sailing machine is the GREATEST THING IVE SEEN!

    do you have plans???

i fig. , if i make that ship, the winds should die!!!

ive been threatening my wife im going to buy a sailboat, so the winds will go away!

    all the best!

  • the only problem is that flying rc and sailing is not the same thing

    (i do both of them)
