Your Daily Politics Video Blog: A recent Justice Department report found that John Tanner, the former head of DOJ's voting-rights section, told a colleague he liked his coffee "Mary Frances Berry style -- black and bitter." Berry, an African-American, was at the time the chair of the US Commission on Civil Rights, which works to protect voting rights. This is hardly the only piece of evidence that Tanner -- who it it appears is still on the DOJ payroll, and still working on voting issues -- might not be the best person to be safeguarding Americans' right to vote. See Tanner's record in all its glory.

  • Mr Roth, gave great insight on the obviously racist speech of Mr Tanner. What an idiot. He straightforwardly insulted African Americans in a way to sound stupid. Though he meant exactly what he is said.

  • So what...my 90 year old grandmother is a figment of my imagination? What a stupid ignorant cur.

  • this conversation is useless. ur naive and i think you should open you mind to other ppl's situations.

i'm done talking to you, have a great life

  • If you think white males run to many things then start your own football team or whatever. There should be no more government interferance with giving racial preferance for ANYTHING in this country. Is that what you are talking about me not addressing?

  • okay what about the second issue i brought up, what about that???? you haven't said anything about that

  • Negroid (Negro)is an adjective derived from the term Negro and refers to a race of people whose recent ancestors are mostly from sub-Saharan Africa.

Caucasoid (caucasian)is a technical term used in anthropology, archaeology, and genetics to describe the general physical type of people today indigenous to Europe, North Africa, Southwest Asia and parts of South Asia, whether considered to be merely a phenotype, or a genotype.

It is offensive to some people because of the 'N'. Deal with it.

  • negro is not the proper term, and just because the american english dictionary says that its true doesn't mean its true. our english word negro comes from the spanish word negro meaning black innanimate object. so get ur facts straight.

and why are you attacking me when i'm just telling the truth. are tryna say america isn't like that? and its not the ID card thats discrimantory, its what he said. i want you to open you mind to ALL the reasons he said the things he said, not just statistics

  • I could NOT agree with you more. BUT the truth is: Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and Rev. Wright are from the older generation of African-Americans who experienced racial segregation. Their influence on the minorities and especially on African-Americans will decrease, since the election of Obama has shown that America is NOT a racist as one might think. Credentials and competence are becoming more and more important than the skin color, as the election of Obama has demonstrated it.

  • What about 'community organizers' like AL Sharpton and Jesse Jackson who extort companies and communities into submission? They have a HUGE voice and politcal clout. Sharpton has gotten a little better with age I will give him that. But the reverand Wrights of America are not preaching to empty churches.
