The main feature of this image distance sensor is that it can measure the distance from the sensor to the photographic subject, then produce motion pictures using near-infrared LED and a special CCD. It measures the distance of the LED reflection from the sensor. It creates the moving images by layering the image data, per each pixel, of the subject screen and the distance to the photographic subject. The speed is 15 frames per second for the standard type and 36 frames per second for the short-distance high speed type. The image distance sensor has various applications. It can be set to produce images only of those people in a prescribed area, which enables it to do such things as to count the number of people in a limited area or even measure the height of those people. The sensor is used as a visual sensor in robots as well for creating a map laying out the obstacles, present in a large area, on a real time basis. A non-contact method is used to collect various data when capturing objects in motion.
