Went to the gig in Buxton last night - first one since Woolly's death. Must have been tough to do but a great tribute to him. For me though there was happiness as well as sadness. Although Jez can never replace him, it was great to hear another skillful musician apply his creativity to all that wonderful material. It felt artful, creative and I think Woolly's spirit will remain if they want to keep moving forward.
Magic stuff. For those who are watching this and don't know, the keyboard player on the right of the stage, Wooly Woolstenholme, took his own life in December 2010. The band continue without him, but a big part of it will be missed.
Really sad to know that the stage will never be as complete as in this great song. Woolly although you leave memories, it will never be as it could have been. Thanks for all your great contributions.
Woolly Wolstenholme was a unique talent as a composer and keyboard player - his talent will be sorely missed. He was also a wit, raconteur, comedian, source of inspiration and creativity, and a genuinely lovely man - he will be deeply missed by fans - but so much more deeply by his friends and family.
At the time I am writing this my heart is saddened by the terrible news that , well to see Woolly in such good form here it is hard to take it all in. God be with you Woolly and I hope you find Mel R.I.P from "the kid on the red Yamaha"
@as400techman And me, but you know, there is still some good music around, it's just that you will rarely here it on the radio stations or on TV, although Jools Holland's show is good for both some of the better new artists and nostalgia.
The weird thing is that John Jr looks like John Sr did at that age and John Sr now looks like Fred (his dad) looked at that age. I think John is gradually becoming Fred Dibnah.

Also like the version with Les Holroyd on vocals, I think with Les it's even better
