The first half of this video is the Wiener Philarmoniker Allegro conducted by Leonard Bernstein performing the IV Movement of Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 88.

The second half is the same piece being performed live by Paul Gilbert in Australia.

I just had to put them side by side!

  • @joethy I was not aware Paul even had an ego LOL This is why Paul trumps all other shedders. His head is on top of his shoulders rather than up his own ass like some. No disrespect to the others' abilities but YM is known more for his ego...Via.....well......he's from another planet. He can play but, man he's a lil weird

  • @mojoredfoot if you think what Vai does is weird, you should listen to his first years playing with Frank Zappa, lol!!

  • it's interesting that Paul Gilbert chose this finale in order to popularize Haydn. It's definitely a witty finale, which you can tell because it returns to its central theme very many times, which Haydn did on purpose. Of course, the development in the middle is brilliant, but I guess you can use many things to popularize him, because Haydn is brilliant very often.

  • @rodcrippler he didn't say anything about Vai! He was refering to Yngwie Malmsteen. Fantastic guitar player but boy is he a douche!

  • Paul gilbert is a guitar playing kitten? Effing bad ass.....

  • who is the dumbass who dislikes this ????? this is fucking awesome¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • wow, I've always heard bout Haydn being one of the benchmarks of classical, now I know why, god if this isn't a masterpiece!!

  • @joethy

No, serious is not the right word at all, since Paul is probably about the most serious to the craft of Music than any other guitar player near his skill level. I understand what you mean though, I guess you could say that Malmsteen puts himself on a higher pedestal easily. Vai is also super dedicated to his craft, but much more so to his own world of existence. Paul is like a sponge of knowledge of rock and music.

  • the ego of paul gilbert:

    aaaaaahh hahahaha :3

  • @mojoredfoot In that post I did get a bit confused in my own words, but I still stand by it. All men have an ego, regardless of how "cool" or "good" we perceive them to be. But I am sure you knew the point I was trying to make. :)

  • @GabrielDhalaman2 Personally I think that Paul's ego drives him to do such a thing. All the others you mentioned seem the kind of personalities that need that sort of accolade, or title of 'having played with an orchestra,' to feel worth - Paul seems far more humble and just in it for the pleasure of playing.

Of course I am not saying that Vai, Malmsteen or others have no worth. That would just be silly. I am just saying that they are more "Serious" (for that lack of a better word right now.)

  • Steve Vai,Malmsteen, eetc already played with an orchestra and that neoclassical awesome guitarist Paul Gilbert hasnt yet?

  • ora lucu.....
